A former New Mexico jail guard is accused of delaying an inmate’s release by adding charges to her file.

According to a criminal complaint, Heather Begay was working in the San Juan County Detention Center when she made the change in the inmate’s records.

When Begay was interviewed, she told sheriff’s detectives it was an accident, but a jail official told investigators that would be almost impossible.

Begay lost her job and is now facing criminal charges, including for false imprisonment.
