Handheld ultrasound equipment to help people in rural New Mexico

New Mexico

New ultrasound technology could help New Mexicans who live in rural areas far from a hospital.

The University of New Mexico’s Department of Health Sciences is now using handheld ultrasound machines.

They can diagnose injuries on the spot without having to go to a hospital.

It’s all part of an effort to give medical attention to people who might not have access to it.

They are currently working on getting the portable machines to cities across New Mexico.
