Kids showing off their agriculture and handicraft skills got a special visit from the governor.
Gov. Susana Martinez stopped by the Chaves County 4-H and Future Farmers of America Fair in Roswell to check out what the kids have been working on and chat with leaders in the dairy industry about issues facing their businesses.
Fair organizers say 4-H and FFA aren’t just about teaching the principles of agriculture. They also arm kids with the real world skills they’ll need no matter where they end up later in life.
“We try to work it as a family and we’re all pulling for each other and create and situation that can be really enjoyable for our young people and they learn about responsibility, leadership, and the older kids are teaching the younger kids and it’s an ongoing process,” Larry Hobson said.
Fair participants are competing through the end of the week in areas like sewing, baking and of course, animal husbandry.
