Governor-elect Lujan Grisham announces cabinet appointments

New Mexico News

Governor-elect Michelle Lujan Grisham announced three new cabinet nominees Wednesday.

They include Jackie White for Secretary of the Homeland Security Department and Emergency Management. White is a long-time captain at Albuquerque Fire Rescue and has a master’s degree in homeland security.

Alice Liu McCoy was nominated for Secretary of Aging and Long-term Services. She’s currently an attorney at Disability Rights New Mexico.

Former Rep. Bill McCamley was also appointed as Secretary of Workforce Solutions. Lujan Grisham talked about his years of fighting for workers’ rights starting as a county commissioner.

“He’s clear about protecting workers, about making sure that wage theft and related issues get addressed in a robust fashion, in addition to vocational training working with our Department of Education,” she said.

All the appointees must be confirmed by the State Senate, but given that Democrats are in control they’re not expected to face any big challenges.
