New Mexico is seeing more tourists for a sixth straight year.
Gov. Susana Martinez announced more than 35 million trips were taken in the state last year. That’s one million more than 2016.
Sixty-five percent of the trips originated from outside of New Mexico.
Gov. Martinez says the state wants to keep the momentum going.
“We’re continuing to develop our tourism industry so that we can attract more visitors to our state and encourage friends and family to jump in the car and come visit,” she said.
New Mexico’s tourism industry also created 1,700 leisure and hospitality positions last year.
