NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – September 23 marks National Hunting and Fishing Day and National Public Lands Day. To celebrate, the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish is letting anglers fish state lakes and rivers for free without an official fishing license and state parks will offer free day-use.
Public Lands Day celebrates the outdoor recreation and our connection to the land. Volunteers will spend the day cleaning and improving public spaces, including national sites like Bandelier National Monument.
To celebrate, the Department of Game and Fish will offer free fishing the weekend of September 22 to September 23, 2023. If you want to continue past the free day, the state is offering a license good until March 2024. It is available for purchase online.
