As one district pays out millions, parents file a lawsuit against another district over the same teacher. That payout was from one case against Gary Gregor during his time at Espanola Public Schools. Now he’s accused of sexually abusing more students in Santa Fe and a new lawsuit said that district should have known better.
“Over the years, different young women have come forward,” said attorney Cammie Nichols.
The now-former New Mexico teacher, Gregor, is accused of molesting elementary school girls.
Gregor has been facing similar accusations for years. According to a new lawsuit filed against Santa Fe Public Schools, he is accused of sexually assaulting female students at Agua Fria Elementary in the early 2000s.
“These two girls were in fourth grade at the time when this happened to them,” said Nichols.
The newest complaint against Gregor was filed this week. The girls allege that Gregor made them sit on his lap in class and stay behind during recess and lunch so he could sexually assault them. One girl claims he even injected her with needles.
“It’s very difficult for these young women to come forward,” said Nichols.
The complaint also targets Santa Fe Public Schools and the old Agua Fria Elementary school principal, Vickie Sewing, of not doing their due diligence about reporting Gregor to authorities.
He was let go from that school district in 2004 and began working at Espanola schools. He was later accused of sexually abusing more students there.
That school district just paid out $1.6 million to one family after paying out more than $7 million to other girls who accused him of molesting them. Nichols said she is unsure if there are other students.
“Maya Angelou once said ‘there is no greater agony than burying an untold story inside you’ and I believe that’s why some of the young women have come forward,” said Nichols.
The suit also claims Santa Fe schools should have known that Gregor had been accused of molesting students in Utah in the 90’s before hiring him. News 13 reached out to Santa Fe Public Schools for comment but have not heard back.
There are three more lawsuits against Espanola schools over Gregor. He is also facing sex charges in Espanola. His trial is set for December.
