Archbishop Emeritus Michael Sheehan announced that he has been diagnosed with early stages of Alzheimer’s.
The 79-year-old who retired in 2015 shared a letter with parishioners Thursday.
Sheehan was named the Archbishop of Santa Fe in 1993 and served until his retirement.
Sheehan says he feels healthy but is on medication to slow down the development of the disease.
The archbishop says he felt it was important to share the news and asked for prayers for him and all those suffering from this life-changing disease.
