Fawn Lakes and the Fawn Lakes Campground have been temporarily closed due to high river runoff.

According to Carson National Forest officials, recent rainfall has resulted in the Red River to overflow and run into lakes. Fawn Lakes are on the Questa Ranger District and are three miles west of the town of Red River on NM Highway 38.

Fawn Lakes has been closed for the winter and will remain closed until officials determine if it is safe to enter. According to a news release, water levels will be closely monitored to determine when the lakes and campground can be reopened.
