Farmington Police warn businesses to be aware of counterfeit money

New Mexico

Police have become aware of counterfeit money that has been circulating within Farmington and are now warning businesses in the community.

While businesses are usually careful of the large bills they accept, officials want them to know small denominations are now being used by counterfeiters.

The United States Federal Reserve has made a website that makes it easier to detect fake bills.

The use of detection pens on counterfeit money are not always accurate, and Farmington Police suggest using design features on the note rather than pens to check bills.

If you suspect you’ve been given a counterfeit bill, request to speak with an officer at (505)334-6622.
