A river rescue in northern New Mexico has dog lovers breathing a sigh of relief.

Thursday, the Farmington Fire Department helped local animal control save a stranded dog from an island on the Animas River.

The fire department used the rescue as a chance to train for the spring run-off season.

They’re reminding visitors to keep a close eye on their kids, pets and to wear proper floatation devices while enjoying the water.
