In Eddy County, a resolution to support unborn children passed unanimously at Tuesday night’s commission meeting.
The move does not change any laws. Commissioners say it’s intended as a statement “to oppose the state in their attempt to decriminalize late-term abortion laws.”
A number of supporters of the resolution showed up to Tuesday night’s meeting.
“They’re not getting a right to life, they’re not getting a right to grow up, to learn, to become prosperous citizens. All that’s being taken away from them when it could be prevented,” Chanette Wilson, Eddy County resident, said.
“I know the value of life from my children and I feel that these women making these decisions have no idea of what they’re losing when they abort their child,” James Campanella, Eddy County resident, said.
Eddy County joins Lea and Chaves counties, which recently passed similar resolutions.
