Drug smugglers caught at U.S. Mexico border

New Mexico

Authorities in southern New Mexico say drug smugglers were using specialized shoes to cover their tracks across the border.

On Tuesday, Border Patrol agents on an ATV spotted four men walking towards the U.S. Mexico border near Lordsburg.

With the help of a helicopter, the agents were able to track the men to a hiding spot in the nearby brush.

Guard members found the men with more than $100,000 worth of marijuana. They were each wearing camouflage and shoes that masked their tracks.

The men are now facing criminal drug and immigration charges.
