The detention officer held hostage in a February standoff at the troubled Curry County jail is now putting the county and city of Clovis on notice.
Authorities say Wesley Flores, who was about to be booked, pulled out a gun and took a detention officer hostage.
It ended with Flores shooting himself in the face.
He is still recovering.
The gun was somehow missed during Flores’ initial pat-down.
According to The Eastern New Mexico News, the detention center is now filing a tort claim, a notice that a suit could be filed at some point in the future.
