DA not pursuing charges following safe return of New Mexico family’s dog

New Mexico

For now, no one will face charges after surveillance video captured a dog being taken from a New Mexico family.

KRQE News 13 reported on the Sappington family’s story earlier this month. Their bulldog, “Valentino,” was lured into a stranger’s truck, leaving the family heartbroken.

“That’s what’s most frustrating, is you stole from a 7-year-old and a 3-year-old more than anything because they spend all day with this dog,” Raeanna Sappington said.

After KRQE News 13’s story aired, the dog was found and returned to the family. However, the District Attorney’s office will not pursue charges in the case. KRQE News 13 asked why, but have not heard back.
