Court addresses mental health of teen charged in fatal library shooting

A New Mexico judge has ordered a mental evaluation and assessment for the accused Clovis Library shooter.

Police say 17-year-old Nathaniel Jouett opened fire at the Clovis-Carver Public Library last year killing two librarians and injuring four other people.

According to the Eastern New Mexico News, Fifth Judicial Judge James Hudson ruled Jouett must undergo an assessment and possibly a treatment plan so the court can access his mental health.

The judge also denied a motion for Jouett to go to an adolescent treatment facility in Albuquerque.

Jouett will be tried as an adult on first-degree murder charges.

His trial is set for next March in Roswell.
