Deputies have arrested the driver accused of hitting and killing a high schooler during a road rage incident.
Deputies say 16-yaer-old Adalberto Romero, a Gadsden High School student, was getting in his car for school outside his Berino home when a speeding car hit and killed him.
They believe that driver was attempting to run another car off the road at the time. Deputies believe that driver is 21-year-old Oscar Anchondo. He fled the scene Wednesday but was later arrested for vehicular homicide.
Neighbors say the area where it happened is full of kids.
“They’re always outside. There’s a bunch of kids outside, like you can see right now they’re coming out of school,” neighbor Adrian Munoz said.
Romero was a sophomore at Gadsden High School and played baseball. He was number 2.
A memorial is planned Thursday night during their game against Alamogordo High School. Romero’s father is throwing out the first pitch in his honor.
