Community leaders unveil artwork made from satellite dishes

New Mexico News

Local artists are turning recycled satellite dishes into beautiful pieces of artwork.

Connect 66, along with community leaders from Grants and Milan, have unveiled the first-ever Native Basket Array.

Organizers say the series of wrapped satellite dishes not only displays the talents of artists, but will also help establish landmarks and community gateways.

“I think rather than throwing in a landfill or having them sit in the back lot of a TV station they could be made into something that’s usable and attractive,” said John Badal, Sacred Wind Enterprises.

Also announced Friday: a call to artists to design the remaining seven baskets.

In addition to having artwork displayed, artists will receive cash prizes.
