A program set to launch soon will focus on improving conditions in a high-crime area of Albuquerque.

According to The Albuquerque Journal, government officials along with several area organizations are starting a community-based crime reduction program in the International District.

A leadership council will include law enforcement, government researchers, substance abuse providers, and community groups.

The program is being funded with the help of a $1 million federal grant from the Bureau of Justice Assistance.
