New Mexicans might see some snow plows on the streets in the metro Thursday, but don’t worry, it’s not because of a winter storm…yet.
Crews are preparing for the season with a mock snow day.
Until about 2 p.m. crews will be testing equipment used to clear streets of snow during the winter months.
This includes more than 30 trucks that plow the streets and lay down salt.
“We don’t want to be surprised. We don’t want a truck out there in the middle of a snowstorm and then find out that the snowplow itself, that the blades aren’t secured properly. Or that the spinner, the part of the spreader isn’t working,” said Director of the Department of Municipal Development Patrick Montoya.
Drivers will also practice their routes to make sure everything is in order before the first snow.
