The Parks and Rec Committee is not giving its blessing to the re-naming of a park in honor of a former mayor’s husband.
As KRQE News 13 reported, former Mayor Debbie Jaramillo made a deal with the city if she added a photo of herself on the wall of former Santa Fe mayors, then the city would rename the park after her late husband, Mike — but Mike had a shady past.
According to the Santa Fe New Mexican, he was fired from the Planning and Zoning Department in 1980 after an investigation into possible conflicts of interest and later served time for federal tax evasion.
Residents were not happy with the idea of renaming the park, and Tuesday night at the Parks and Rec Committee meeting the issue didn’t even make it to a vote.
The full City Council will now look at the proposal.
