City commissioners approve raise for Hobbs police officers

New Mexico

A raise for most Hobbs police officers has been approved by city commissioners.

The proposal will give officers a 5 percent pay raise.

Hobbs officers are the highest paid officers in southeastern New Mexico and among the highest in the state with starting pay at about $51,000.

However, the department says it’s been struggling to keep its officers from leaving for other departments in the country.
