Officials hope a new housing plan will keep hundreds of oil workers in southern New Mexico.

Workers have saturated southeastern New Mexico because of the oil boom, but housing is hard to come by. Many live in hotel rooms and pay outrageous prices.

Now, according to the Carlsbad Current-Argus, the city has hired a contractor to build temporary housing with 400 beds.

The development is expected to open at the end of the year.
