One New Mexico girl is taking matters into her own hands to help the needy.
Zoe Rhoades, a soon-to-be third grader started the Giving Tree in Carlsbad last winter.
The goal was to help keep the homeless warm by hanging hats and gloves for people to take.
Now her tree is becoming a permanent fixture.
The city has stepped in and installed a metal tree.
“I was so excited, I almost fainted once,” said Zoe.
The tree is located right behind the MLK Park.
Zoe is asking people to donate non-perishable food and now during the summer sunscreen, tank tops and shorts.
