An airman from Cannon Air Force Base is being honored for saving three people from a burning car.

Senior Airman Leviti A. Douglas narrowly escaped a chain reaction crash near Portales on Dec. 12.

He saw one car wedged under a truck with the driver and two children frantically trying to get out as smoke filled the car.

With all the door handles broken, Douglas broke the window and pulled the three to safety, suffering cuts to his hands.

Douglas was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal.
