BNSF investigates derailed train near Roswell

New Mexico News

BNSF is investigating after a train derailed near Roswell.

It happened just after 11 a.m. Saturday morning between Dexter and Midway at a railroad crossing on East Orchard Park Road and State Road 2.

Midway Fire says seven cars hauling sand came off the tracks.

No one was injured.

An official cause has yet to be determined but it’s believed the tracks simply gave out.

“They did pull apart…the engineer didn’t realize that anything had happened at first until we told him, he just thought he was having some sort of problems,” said Deputy Chief Tim Fuller of Midway Fire Department.

Orchard Park Road will be closed until BNSF is finished cleaning up the mess.

That is expected to be completed by Sunday afternoon.
