A Bernalillo County judge has been honored with a big award.
Metro Court Judge Sharon D. Walton was awarded with the Henrietta Pettijohn Award Thursday.
The award is named after the first female to practice law in the state of New Mexico.
Judge Walton was given this prestigious award as a way to recognize her for her support of women in the legal field.
“It was originally designed to recognize women who break some barriers for other women and help other women in practicing law,” said Judge Sharon Walton.
The money raised at the reception goes towards helping law students who have graduated and are studying for the bar exam.
