Bernalillo County District Attorney to present legislation to lawmakers

New Mexico

A push for change will take place Saturday in the state’s Capitol as District Attorney Raul Torres takes his concerns about preventative detention to the Roundhouse.

“I think it’s time for us to face the fact that preventative detention, as it’s currently structured in the state, simply isn’t working and simply isn’t protecting the people and the citizens of this community,” said Bernalillo County District Attorney Raul Torrez.

Torrez says he plans to introduce legislation next week asking the governor and lawmakers to take action. Details of the legislation are unknown at this time.
