The ongoing hot and dry conditions have led to a rise in bear activity in the Jemez Mountains.

New Mexico Game and Fish has received multiple reports of cub sightings by campers in the area of Forest Road 376.

With the holiday weekend upon us, people have been cautioned not to feed or try to interact with the animals, and to keep a clean camp.

Officials are also reminding everyone that bear cubs can be especially dangerous, as the mother bear will often try to protect her young.
