Guns will not be allowed at the State of the State address during the first day of the New Mexico legislature.
The session begins Tuesday, with senators joining representatives on the House side of the Capitol to hear from new Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham.
The legislature says guns will not be allowed in the House gallery during that joint session, or any other joint session throughout the 60 days.
The Santa Fe New Mexican says a legislative committee approved the ban, citing mass shooting concerns.
The ban also includes open carrying anywhere in the roundhouse on just Tuesday.
People will still be allowed to lawfully carry during the rest of the session.
