The Attorney General is speaking out on the investigation of a former Torrance County Sheriff turned magistrate judge.
Heath White is accused of using more than $157,000 of Torrance County taxpayer money to buy things for his own personal use. According to search warrants, White filled out purchase orders for firearms, car parts, surveillance equipment and more.
Now, Attorney General Hector Balderas has sent a letter to the Judicial Standards Commission, asking it to investigate the allegations and take all measures it finds necessary and appropriate.
The commission has the power to make a recommendation, but the State Supreme Court ultimately can take action, potentially disciplining White or removing him from the bench.
