New Mexico State Fair kicks off with food specials, contests

Thursday, September 6 marks the opening of the 2018 New Mexico State Fair.

Officials say it’s bigger and better this year with new attractions and crazy food.

They say the food menus will be full of tasty items to try and contests to enter.

General Manager Dan Mourning says there will be many different kinds of options from your favorite to unique offerings that you can only find at the fair.

He also says they’re featuring contests inspiring people to bring their favorite dish.

This all starts with a Unique Food Contest Thursday at noon where new treats will be unveiled.

Next will be a Spam Contest then, the highly anticipated Green Chile Cheeseburger Contest.

For beer lovers, there is also a special State Fair beer called the ‘Hazy Pale Ale’ created by Marble Brewery.

It will be available in cans and on draft throughout the fairgrounds.

Vendors will also carry a variety of treats.

The fair is also offering a special called ‘Graze Days.’

“You get from 11 to 4, a $3 menu option from all of our vendors. Each one will have a different menu option and a different food. It’s a great way to taste a lot of different food at the Fair,” said Mourning.

Graze Days will be every Thursday including opening day on September 6.
