New Mexico senator opposes Trump’s DOE nomination

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Tuesday, New Mexico Senator Martin Heinrich opposed the nomination of Rick Perry to lead the Department of Energy.

The DOE oversees work at Sandia and Los Alamos National Labs.

Heinrich has said Perry, the former governor of Texas, is unqualified to lead the DOE and at one time said he wanted to eliminate the department altogether.

Tuesday, Perry’s nomination cleared the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee on a 16 to seven vote. He’s almost certain to be confirmed by the full Senate.
