CARLSBAD, NM (KRQE) – A New Mexico judge accused of some bad behavior has resigned.
The state’s Judicial Standards Commission filed a petition in October asking for Carlsbad Magistrate Judge Henry Castaneda to be removed.
The 51-page petition outlined offensive material found in Castaneda’s email including sexist, racist and lewd jokes.
In a letter to the Supreme Court, Castaneda wrote, “After close consideration, I have made the decision to resign and defer my retirement.”
His seat will be up for election this year.
