New Mexico girl meets organ donor who helped save her life

A little girl in New Mexico is getting her first real chance at being a kid. In September, Leanne Sweeny was given the gift of a lifetime. Ten-year-old Leann Sweeny has waited most of her life, for a kidney transplant.

Now, for the first time, she doesn’t have to wait anymore, all because of a selfless woman in Arlington, Texas gave her the ultimate gift. Lisa James is a dialysis social worker and mother of three.

She’s been trying to donate a kidney to a child in need for years. Then, she got a call that would change her life, and Leann’s, forever.

“It’s so hard to put into words, but it’s something I’ll never forget,” James said.

Leann is looking forward to the simple pleasures, and her mom Tiffany says they’ll forever be grateful for the precious gift. “Anything I say, I don’t think it’ll ever be good enough to express our gratitude to her,” she said.

For the first time in five years, Leann no longer has to undergo dialysis treatments. Leann and Lisa James met in Texas for the first time earlier this week.
