ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – New Mexico firefighters had a big part in battling the California wildfires.

The local fire crews sent out west returned home safely on Thursday. Albuquerque, Bernalillo, Corrales, Sandoval and Los Alamos Fire Departments all sent firefighters. They helped with both the Lilac and Thomas Fires.

New Mexico crews held containment lines, suppressed spot fires, coordinated aircraft and protected structures. On the way back home, the group even put out a semi-truck that caught on fire in Ventura.
