New Mexico farmer creates website to help people purchase hay

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A New Mexico farmer is going high-tech to help solve a problem for other local farmers.

Joey Fresquez grows hay in Los Chavez to feed his two horses and sells the rest. Each year, he says he would run out but customers would keep calling.

Fresquez says he didn’t know where to direct them, which gave him an idea.

He created where farmers can advertise their hay based on where they live in New Mexico, including some places customers might not have thought to check.

“Some of them would travel to Colorado to get certain types of hay, not realizing that hay is grown here as well,” said Fresquez. “It’s increased the market for them and it’s easier for them to find us.”

So far, nearly 40 farmers have signed up to advertise on the website from across the state. There’s even vendors from Arizona and Colorado using the site.
