New Mexico Dems gather to hear Obama speech

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) – Around three dozen emotional Democratic activists gathered at an Albuquerque union hall to eat green chile stew and Native American Pueblo bread and watch Obama’s farewell address.

Some activists could be heard sniffling and be seen wiping tears within minutes into the president’s speech on Tuesday. They clapped when Obama mentioned the need to protect immigrants and fight for economic equality.

Juan Sanchez III said the speech for very emotional for him because Obama was the first president he voted for. Sanchez says the Affordable Care Act made it possible for him to receive treatment for my pre-existing condition.

Democrats around the country held watch parties to hear Obama’s final words as president.
