ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – State officials are encouraging New Mexicans to make a life-saving decision.
Officials are at the Motor Vehicle Division asking people to become organ donors. More than 700 New Mexicans are waiting for life-saving organ transplants.
State officials say it’s very important your license has a red heart on it.
“It’s important that it be on your driver’s license because when first responders first get to an accident, and they get someone’s driver’s license, and they know they are an organ donor, they can immediately act upon information,” said Taxation and Revenue Department Cabinet Secretary Demesia Padilla.
New Mexico is ranked 9th in the nation for registered organ donors.
