A new affordable housing development will help local grandparents raising grandchildren.
Generation West Mesa is a 54-unit project near 57th Street and Central. It’s the brainchild of Catholic Charities and Gammon Construction and will have a section reserved specifically for grandparents raising grandchildren to give them help when they need it most.
“They’re concerned about their grandchildren but they don’t have the ability to do it without this assistance, so it’s a partnership to make a healthier Albuquerque, a healthier New Mexico,” Catholic Charities CEO Jim Gannon said.
The development is being built on land donated by the city. Families are expected to move in Sep. 1.
