CNM has officially opened a new electric power training facility.
The community college and the New Mexico Rural Electric Cooperative Association teamed up to bring the facility to the CNM campus in Rio Rancho.
It will be used to train apprentices to become electrical line workers.
Officials say it will provide hands-on training to prepare them to handle things like maintenance and repairs to electrical lines.
“It is an opportunity to train linemen who are our first people out in a difficult situation sometimes when the electricity is going down,” says CNM President Kathie Winograd.
CNM will offer the training program for 15-20 students twice per year.
