New Albuquerque Police cadets are learning the values behind community policing.
This new class of cadets is scheduled to hit the streets in December.
Wednesday morning they were invited to APD’s year-long review to learn more about the importance of building partnerships with business leaders and understanding the community’s needs.
“It used to be that police thought they had all the answers. We would tell you well, we’re gonna put patrols there then we think it’s necessary. But what’s important to you is what we need to be more aware of because that’s the quality of life that we have to maintain,” said Chief Mike Geier.
Chief Geier says building trust with neighborhood associations and business owners in downtown Albuquerque also plays a huge role in crime prevention.
