ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A supermarket turned into a makeshift farm Monday as local 4H kids gathered fruits and vegetables for people in need. They shopped here at Smith’s supermarket at Constitution and Carlisle to help stock the pantry at the local Ronald McDonald House.
“Ronald McDonald House gives people a place to stay while loved ones are in the hospital, so they depend on donations on the food products that they get,” Anita Hand with the New Mexico Farm & Livestock Bureau said. “We’re neighbors helping neighbors, families helping families, rural ranchers helping ranchers.”
The New Mexico Farm and Livestock Bureau organized the event. They’ve been holding fundraisers to help buy the food, and Smith’s matched up to $1,000 worth.
