An Albuquerque family said their home was broken into, and it’s not the first time. This time, however, they say their neighbor followed the thief and captured the getaway on camera.
Neighbors who live near Eubank and Constitution said recently they’ve been on the lookout for thieves. “Constantly have to be on guard,” Sandy Wright said.
On Saturday, Wright said someone got into their garage when she and her husband were gone “He said, ‘Stop,’ and I looked over and noticed right away that his big floor standing air compressor, Craftsman, was missing,” Wright said.
However, someone caught the thief as he was leaving. “When they left the house, the neighbor saw them leave,” Wright said. “They were leaving in a big hurry, the hatch on the vehicle was still up.”
Wright’s neighbor followed the man—dashcam video rolling—until they said the driver of the blue SUV pulled over, and the red air compressor can clearly be seen in the back. “About three blocks away, the thief pulled the car over to re-adjust the stuff in the back and close the back,” Wright said.
Wright said this is the fourth time they’ve been burglarized. The most recent was just three weeks ago. Wright said the couple is simply fed up. “As soon as we both retire, I mean why stay here?” she said. For now, Wright and her husband are hoping police can track this man down. “You’re constantly worried at night if somebody’s going to be coming inside your house while you’re sleeping,” she said.
The thief did not get into the couple’s home, but they estimate they made off with close to $1,000 of their belongings. Wright’s neighbor did not get a clear shot of the license plate on that blue SUV, but they’re hoping from the video that police will be able to.
