Native New Mexican teachers would receive pay increases under act

SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE)— One democratic lawmaker is hoping to get more local teachers into the classroom.

Representative Miguel Garcia is pushing to persuade educators under the “Native New Mexican Teacher Incentive Pay Act”.

Under the act, native New Mexican teachers working at certain elementary schools would earn an additional $3,000 above their base salary.

Garcia, an educator himself, hopes to fill vacancies at schools who received ratings of D’s or F’s in an attempt to boost their status each until an A rating is achieved.
