Native American contemporary artists transform hotel rooms

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – It’s not your typical way to enjoy and appreciate art. Instead of seeing it in a museum or gallery, you can sleep next to it in a hotel room.

The Nativo Lodge, near I-25 and San Mateo, has 12 rooms like no other. The hotel rooms have been transformed with special creations by New Mexican artists.

You might say the hotel room walls became the artist’s canvass. Each has a Native American theme and special meaning. Some rooms have large paintings, murals and portraits.

Artist Rhett Lynch’s room even contains a QR code that can be scanned next to his pieces of art, where guests can hear the sounds of rain and thunder. Lynch said his room is about healing and inspiration.

“It’s an experience not to be missed.  Each room so much has its own personality, and its own message. There’s something for everyone, and there’s nothing like it that you can experience anywhere else,” Lynch said.

The Nativo Lodge is billed as “a place of authentic Southwest hospitality and attraction.”Artist rooms start at $99, and you can book mentioning the code word “art.”
