Wednesday marks first day of Kwanzaa

Wednesday, December 26 marks the official start of Kwanzaa.

This holiday was created in 1966 by an African studies professor and is celebrated by millions of people of African descent around the world.

Kwanzaa lasts seven days and is a celebration of family, community and culture from African and African-American origins.

Feasts are part of the festivities as well as the lighting of seven candles representing the principles of Kwanzaa.
