Vice President Pence speaks at Republican rally in Roswell

Vice President Mike Pence made an appearance at a rally for Republican candidates in New Mexico Friday, 11 days before the midterm election.

During “Rally New Mexico Red,” people with patriotic shirts and signs piled into the airport hangar to watch Pence speak as he vouched for Steve Pearce and other candidates on the Republican ticket.

“It’s been two years of results. It’s been two years of promises made and promises kept and we’re just getting started, New Mexico,” says Pence.

Pence talked about the suspicious packages recently sent out, celebrating the suspect’s arrest and saying violence against politicians will not be tolerated.

Hoping to keep right-wing government majorities around the country, he went on to talk about how Pearce is the right choice for economic growth and national security among other things.

Pearce, whose campaign priority is to bring more jobs to the state, says he does not want to win people’s votes, he wants to win their hearts.

“I’ve been in your shoes, I know where you’ve been, no matter how poor you are, I’ve been there and I’ve been worse so I know the pathway forward, you just got to come along with me. You gotta believe in yourself because I believe in you already,” says Pearce.

Yvette Herrell also spoke, as well as other Republican candidates vying for state roles.

Both Pence and Pearce encouraged people to get out to the polls. Pearce says he knows the election will come down to a couple thousand votes.

It is unclear exactly how many people showed up but about 1,500 pre-registered for the event.

Opponents Michelle Lujan Grisham and Martin Heinrich will be in Roswell next Friday for a “canvas kickoff,” going to people’s doors to encourage them to vote.
