 Several states have recently passed sweeping abortion bans, and other states in the Deep South and Midwest could soon follow suit.

Efforts such as those in Georgia, Mississippi, Ohio and Kentucky to bar the procedure represent the largest assault on abortion rights in decades.

Republican lawmakers in those states are hoping that a more conservative U.S. Supreme Court will approve the bans, ending the constitutional right to abortion.
