WASHINGTON (AP) – President Donald Trump and the Washington press corps engaged in dueling events Saturday.

Trump skipped the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner for the third straight time to host a political rally in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

The president scolded the media but spent more time trumpeting the nation’s strong economy and the GOP.

In Washington, historian Ron Chernow told the correspondents’ dinner that relations between the press and the president don’t have to be “steeped in venom.”
